Police Department
The Fultondale
Police Department is committed to protecting life and property,
enforcing laws and ordinances, preserving peace, and preventing
crime. Under the command of Chief Byron Pigg, the Police Department
has a total of 26 employees including the Lieutenant, 4 Patrol
Sergeants, 2 Detectives, 14 Patrol Officers, 4 Dispatchers and
an Administrative Assistant. Both Patrol and Dispatch are supplemented
by Reserve Officers and part-time employees.
The Police
Department is equipped with 15 marked Patrol Units, 5 unmarked
vehicles, an armored personnel carrier, and additional all-terrain
support vehicles for extreme weather or situations. Police personnel
are well armed including long-range weapons and sub-machine guns.
Officers are held to the training and qualification requirements
of the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commision.
In addition to certification and specialized training, 70% of
the Fultondale Police force has over 20 years of individual law
enforcement experience.
The Police
Station is staffed 24 hours a day with 3 overlapping shifts that
provide maximum coverage for the city. The city is linked to other
law enforcement agencies across the nation to provide instant
communication and information for investigative purposes by participating
in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the Alabama Criminal
Justice Information Center (ACJIC), and the Law Enforcement Tactical
System (LETS). Fultondale also has a well equipped Jail with electronic
controls and digital video monitoring systems.
