A planned imaging center in Fultondale will soon have a new neighbor.

Norwood Apothecary will soon be moving its operation from 1532 Carraway Boulevard to the old Winn-Dixie shopping center at the intersection of Decatur Highway and Walker Chapel Road.

The pharmacy will be two doors down from the future Norwood Clinic diagnostic facility, located in the former site of the grocery store.

Bobby Wilson of Norwood Apothecary said he hopes the pharmacy will be open by next week, though it may be as late as July 13.

Wilson said the store has lost most of its neighbors and is seeing less traffic following the shuttering of Physican’s Medical Center. Norwood Clinic moved physicians’ offices to Brookwood Hospital in November.

“We’re excited about the move because it’s a ghost town over here,” he said. “Fultondale looks like a growing area and we’ll be close to other thriving businesses.”

He described Norwood Apothecary as a full-service pharmacy with a delivery service. The store will carry over-the-counter medications for coughs and cold, pain relievers and diabetic supplies. The 2,400-square foot store will also feature a coffee bar and wireless Internet.

“We have personal service and we have the free delivery,” he said. “We take all insurances, Medicaid and the Medicare Part D plans. We’ll be competitive with the larger pharmacies.”

Norwood’s diagnostic imaging center is scheduled to open later this summer and will feature X-Ray, MRI, CT scan, mammogram and ultrasound capabilities.
