The American Legion Post No. 255 Auxiliary stepped up last week to help those in need.
Members of the auxiliary baked 13 items, including cakes, candy and brownies, and donated them and $45 to LifeCare Hospice.
LifeCare in turn sold the baked goods at Saturday’s Founders Day in Fultondale in order to help pay expenses for indigent patients.
“This is something we were pleased to do,” said Gladys Robertson, president of the Post No. 255 Auxiliary.
Robertson said her group is involved in the community in other ways as well, including hosting birthday parties every last Friday of the month for residents at the Jefferson County Nursing Home at Ketona.
“We do it for all the nursing home patients,” said Robertson.
The auxiliary provides the gifts, while another group brings the food.
“We’ve been doing that for several years,” Robertson said.
She said the auxiliary will also host a New Year’s Eve party at the nursing home in January.
Robertson said auxiliary committees are in the process of deciding on other community projects for the year.
