FULTONDALE — North Jefferson VFW changes meeting dates

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 10250, which meets in Fultondale has changed its meeting dates to the fourth Sunday at 2 p.m., effective in February. The post was formerly meeting the fourth Tuesday of every month. Meetings are held at 1425 Stouts Road.

The post is also searching for a new commander; former Commander Jim Whittle stepped down this week. Senior Vice Commander Robert Mattox is filling in until the post elects a new commander



Morris honors former clerk; appoints new town clerk

The Morris Town Council held a moment of silence at its regular meeting on Tuesday for Renee Sears, the former town clerk for Morris who died on Jan. 14 at the age of 50. The council also appointed Jessica Robb as the new town clerk, and Alice Mahaffey as court clerk.

In other business, the council:

• considered adding a one cent tobacco tax within the town limits to help pay the $150 a month necessary to keep ClasTran bus service running to the Morris Senior Center. No action will be taken until the next council meeting.

• proclaimed January Radon Action Month in Morris at the request of the Alabama Department of Public Health.

• passed a resolution to sell an unused Ford 3000 Tractor with Sickle Blade owned by the town. The resolution states that the property will be sold to the highest bidder, with a minimum bid of $800. The bids will be open at the next council meeting on Feb. 22.
