A business in Fultondale has a special treat for north Jefferson County teachers.
Irresistible Hair & Lashes is offering free chair massages, hand and foot treatments, and light refreshments in February to honor educators during Teachers Appreciation Month.
The events will be every Monday in February, 6-8 p.m.
“We chose to focus on teachers. They have a job that’s underappreciated,” said Sonia Thames, who owns the business along with her husband Kelvin.
Sonia Thames, a teacher herself at the Aveda Institute in Hoover, said she can relate to how difficult a teacher’s job can be.
“I can appreciate the task of trying to reach the students,” she said. “Teachers often do not have the time they need to do for themselves. If you help people feel good, they can do a better job.”
Thames teaches cosmetology full-time and works at her Fultondale shop part-time, while Kelvin is at the salon full-time.
There are also four other stylists at the business.
Sonia Thames said she will have plenty of stylists on hand during the teacher appreciation nights.
